CareerPlug and Wizehire Manage Applicants. Neither Finds the Producer Who Never Applied.
Published on August 3rd, 2026
Search for the best insurance recruiting software today and CareerPlug and Wizehire are what actually rank, ahead of every AI sourcing brand in the category. Both are genuinely well-built. Neither was built for the problem insurance agencies actually have.
- CareerPlug is a strong applicant tracking and onboarding platform for multi-location franchise networks. Its own data shows candidate handling is inbound-only, and licence status, where tracked at all, lives in a form field rather than a verified check against a state board.
- Wizehire offers job-ad templates and assessments that small independent agencies use to write their first postings. Same shape: solid at managing applicants who arrive, silent on verifying who is actually licensed to sell.
Both manage people who apply. Neither reaches people who do not, and per Accenture's analysis of BLS data, roughly 1.37 million insurance professionals are 55 or older against about 214,000 aged 20 to 24, a six-to-one ratio. Most of the people an agency needs are not applying anywhere. They are already appointed somewhere else.
The three gaps neither tool closes
- The workforce is retiring faster than it is being replaced, and an ATS cannot widen the entry pipeline. BLS projects roughly 47,000 annual openings for insurance sales agents through 2034, driven mostly by turnover and retirement. That is a continuous hiring problem. An applicant tracking system only ever sees whoever happens to apply into it.
- Almost nobody worth hiring is unemployed right now. 93% of insurance carriers plan to increase or maintain staff over the next 12 months, a 15-year high, per the Jacobson Group and Aon's Q1 2026 study. The producer you want is appointed elsewhere, and an inbound tool never reaches someone who has not applied.
- Licence status gets stored, not verified. Neither CareerPlug nor Wizehire publishes a claim of checking a candidate's licence against a state board. A form field that records a licence number without confirming it is active catches nothing.
What our client says
"With technology and the ability to work remotely, we're able to recruit nationwide outside of our footprint. This expands the pool of prospective candidates and gives us access to candidates who might not have ever applied for a position on our website's career page."
Jeff McGee, Vice President, W3 Insurance Source: HireQuotient Extends AI Recruiting Capabilities to Paylocity Customers in Frontline Industries
Read that against the three gaps above. "Candidates who might not have ever applied" is the exact population an inbound ATS structurally cannot reach, because it only activates once someone submits an application. W3 Insurance is describing sourcing outside their own career page, nationwide, which is a different capability entirely from organising the applicants who show up to it.
Where each tool actually wins
| EasySource | CareerPlug | Wizehire | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best at | Finding licensed producers who have not applied | Multi-location onboarding and workflow | First job ads for independent agencies |
| Candidate source | 800M+ profiles across 100+ databases and sources | Inbound applicants only | Inbound applicants only |
| Licence handling | Verified against 90%+ of US state licence boards before contact | Stored in a form field | Stored in a form field |
| Outreach | Multi-channel, including autonomous calling and texting | None; waits for applicants | None; waits for applicants |
| Franchise and multi-location fit | Strong, purpose-built | Limited | |
| Where it is the better choice | You have open producer, CSR or adjuster roles and too few qualified applicants | You get enough applicants and need to onboard them well | You are writing your first insurance job ad |
An agency that cannot find licensed producers because the ones it wants are not applying anywhere is describing exactly the gap EasySource by HireQuotient is built to close.
FAQ
Why do CareerPlug and Wizehire outrank AI sourcing tools for insurance hiring searches?
Because they are more widely adopted for agency and franchise HR, and no independent 2026 comparison of insurance-specific sourcing tools currently exists. Ranking reflects adoption and content, not necessarily fit for the licensing and outbound problem.
Is an ATS enough for insurance agency hiring?
It is enough if your bottleneck is managing applicants who already apply. It is not enough if your bottleneck is finding licensed producers who are not applying, which current workforce data suggests is the more common constraint.
Do CareerPlug or Wizehire verify insurance licences against a state board?
Based on their published feature sets, no. Licence status is stored rather than verified.
